The first step to obtaining a fiancé(e) visa is for you, the U.S. citizen, to file form I-129F—Petition for Alien Fiancé(e) on behalf of your fiancé(e). After this petition is approved, your fiancé(e) must obtain the visa at a U.S. Consulate or Embassy abroad.

A fiancé(e) visa is a non-immigrant visa. It allows a foreign national to the U.S. for marriage, which must take place within 90 days of the date of entering the country.
